The North Carolina WIC Program
The North Carolina WIC Program is making an important change to the WIC food package. Effective January 6, 2009, all women and children two years and older will receive lower fat milk which includes; reduced-fat (2%), low-fat (1%) and fat-free (skim) milks. This policy change is consistent with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendation of using lower fat dairy products for all children older than two years. As a pediatrician, you have the opportunity to influence the type of milk your patients and their families consume. The WIC Program has designed the Move to low-fat or fat-free milk Conversation Starter for our use in talking to parents about moving their families to lower fat milk. If you have a patient participating on WIC who for medical reasons requires whole milk, you may use the WIC Program Prescription form for that request.

NC Pediatric Society Mentoring Program
The NC Pediatric Society, with support from the American Academy of Pediatrics, has a program to match an experienced pediatrician with a young pediatrician for one year in a mentoring program. The intention is to help young physicians in their career development, support life balance inside and outside of work, and encourage participation in the Society.
Holiday Safety Tips!
Select toys to suit the age, abilities, skills and interest level of the intended child. Toys too advanced may pose safety hazards for younger children.
Calling all “Asthma Champions”
The Asthma Alliance of North Carolina (AANC) wants to identify “asthma champions” in every pediatric practice – including physician(s) plus a key staff person – to keep up to date on best practices and asthma-related information.
Tips for Selecting a Pediatrician
Talk to parents in your neighborhood, church, social circles and ask who they recommend and most importantly, why?
You can usually call the practice manager or administrator, or sometimes a nurse is assigned to take calls and answer questions that you might have.
